Hana and Raymond’s beautiful Bernardus Lodge wedding, in the Carmel Valley, was unforgettable. I was unfamiliar with this resort before I took a site visit. When I started to look at the mounds of lush lavender and vibrantly colored walls, I thought “Hey, this reminds me of Hana and Ray’s relationship!” The energy between these two is colorful, blissful and vibrant. Hana’s laughter and graciousness is reminiscent of a bouquet of fragrant lavender. A perfect spot for their wedding! Bernardus Lodge is a trip to the Mediterranean: acres of rolling vineyards and understated natural gardens. In the evening, the fog rolls over the mountain range to create a smoky blue sky. Hana and Raymond’s reception was held outdoors, illuminated by market lights and candles. Later in the evening, the party went indoors for dancing and cake.
Raymond wrote, “We met through a blind date at Universal Studios in Los Angeles, and a spark started between that burned like a warm ember. We both were hesitant to start something serious, but knew there was something going on. This strung our courtship out across over 6 months, until we came to a fateful turning point when Hana had to move to pharmacy school. Rather than missing out on something we knew to be special, we continued our relationship, and as time past, the fire between grew into a roaring blaze. This bond kept us together when we lived 1 hr apart and even when we lived over 1000 miles apart. So when Raymond moved back to California from Kansas in 2011, he came down to San Diego, where we first started dating, and asked for Hana’s hand in marriage. When we started looking at various venues, we kept on running into reason why it wasn’t for us. On our trip to explore Monterey, we stopped in Carmel Valley at Bernardus Lodge were struck by the comfortable welcoming atmosphere, excellent food and wine, friendly staff, and beautiful cozy garden. Not only could we imagine our wedding here, but we also saw our future years returning to enjoy the lodge and food and remind us of the day that we pledged our love to one another.”
